FREE SIGHT TESTS
At Spectacles Direct we take vision seriously. We recommend an eye test every 2 years. Your eyes are unique so we tailor your eye-test to meet your individual needs.
Not only will your eye test provide a thorough assessment of your vision, your test will also determine the health of your eyes. By regularly having your eyes tested, our optician is able to identify any other potential problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure etc. If you are a UK resident, you can get a free NHS eye examination in Scotland. How often am I entitled to a free NHS eye-test?
We have invested in state of the art sight testing equipment and provide the following: Retinal photography In order to offer a comprehensive sight test we include retinal photography as part of your NHS examination. This gives us a detailed image of your retina, (the back of your eye). This gives us a permanent record to allow us, not only to spot any problems, but to monitor changes over the years. |
Visual Fields/DVLA screening
This gives us an effective means to testing the effectiveness of your peripheral vision. During this visual fields test we will ask you to look at a spot in the centre of the machine and respond to lights flashing in your peripheral. This will give us indications of any blind spots and spot the early signs of glaucoma. Non-Contact Tonometer By using the non-contact tonometer, we will blow a puff of air in each eye. The air bounces back to the tonometer to gauge the pressure inside each eye. This is extremely important as high pressure can indicate the early stages of glaucoma. Slit Lamp The slit lamp is used to examine the outer surface of the eyes, eyelids, lashes and surrounding areas. This will also allow the optician to evaluate the condition of the cornea, sclera, conjunctiva, iris and the lens allowing the optometrist to spot any abnormalities or scratches. This is just part of your comprehensive sight test. During the eye test the optometrist will discuss your health, family health and vision needs. The optometrist will also try to answer all your queries and explain their findings. Call us on 0131 553 9000 and book your NHS eye test today! |
